The gardens
The gardens are made up of a regular decorative garden and a romantic park surrounding the castle. The Chateau du Pailly was a former feudal castle which was turned into a small Renaissance treasure between 1563 and 1573. The gardens have been state property since 1963.
The regular garden has a square shape and is surrounded by lime tree alleys. They make a canopy bringing/providing shade and coolness in summer. The romantic garden shapes the landscape. It is made up of a hill, planted with local species, and of a sunny plain, planted with unusual species.
Conservatory orchard
In January 2014, various varieties of pear, apple and plum trees were planted in a reserved area of the park to protect these old local tree species.
In the future, this conservatory orchard is to be completed with a garden dedicated to aromatic and medicinal plants.
